Our Vision
Since 2003, Land & Water Design have been working together with homeowners to develop truly unique and distinctive outdoor living spaces. We provide planning and design services through all phases of landscape architecture to include construction oversight. We offer over 30 years of experience with transforming challenging terrain into creative design solutions.
As a Landscape Architecture Design firm, our role is to work directly with you to understand your needs and expectations and turn your ideas into a comprehensive, functional plan that is uniquely suited to your home and your property’s natural attributes as well as your lifestyle and personality.
Our Team
Don Nesmith
Principal CEO and Founding Landscape Architect
For the past fifty years, Don has practiced landscape architecture in the Washington DC area. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1970 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Don worked as a landscape architect for VVKR Inc, Harry Weese & Assoc., and Greenhorne & O’Mara. Don was responsible for projects involving public parks, historic restoration, and private gardens including McLean Central Park, and Sully Plantation Restoration.
In 1985 Don started his practice and for the next fourteen years was a partner in two Maryland firms; Outdoor Designs and Greenscapes. Since 2003, Mr. Nesmith has been the principal of Land & Water Design, in Virginia. The company focuses on landscape architecture design and construction project management for upscale residential properties. His firm’s portfolio includes many award-winning projects and his work has been published in countless magazines.
Michael Tran
Senior Building Designer
Mike joined Land & Water Design in 2003, bringing with him over 20 years of architecture and building experience. As the former head of his own design/build company, Mike possesses extensive knowledge of architecture and construction methodology. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Kentucky, College of Design. By combining his knowledge of construction with his design expertise, Michael has developed a distinctive style with a natural ability to meet each client’s needs.
Vivian Myers
Business Marketing Manager
After earning her bachelor’s degree in Business at George Mason University. Vivian began her career in accounting and marketing support, in 2001. Vivian had a vision and developed the business model and marketing strategies for Land & Water Design. Vivian also helped the firm analyze project costs, and manages the company finances, and technology.
